Trainspotting
The style in which this poster is done is to introduce the main characters in the film, the way in which it has been done is to take photos of the main characters, make them do a pose which is typical of their character and the characters names by the side of them. The design of this poster does not personally remind me much of the film due to it being quite a downbeat film and the background colour being orange looks quite positive. Its still fulfils its purpose as a poster to give the audience a feel for the characters in it.
Harry Potter
I like how Harry Potter posters do a different idea for each time a film is out. These four I have selected are my favourites. The top right one show Bella Trix, a villain from the Potter series; I like how the light has been manipulated on her face to make her eyes look almost surreal- I also like her facial expression and would be a look that we consider for one of the females we have in our trailer.
Most of the HP posters include a couple of posters per film which normally include the main characters, in a setting linked to the film (Hogwarts, forest or London), there may also be another key character in the frame- this person is normally a villain. This is an idea I thought could work quite well, we could take photos of several of the main characters have them photo-shopped into different backgrounds such as East London, St Mary Cray, Jessa`s house or Ciarans. Some of the posters with one character have amazing editing to them like the bottom right one which show Snake with a dark contrast on his face and the saturation on his eyes are towards the red side of the scale.
The final poster is another idea that may work well with our trailer; we could get several of the photos we have taken of the different characters and arrange them on Photoshop to look like how it does on the HP poster. We could also have a Ripper in the background like how Sirus Black looks in this.
Minimalist Posters
They are perfect if we are strapped for resources and people. This poster idea can be easily created with programs such as Paint. The minimal posters normally involve a key symbol, motif or scene that happens in the film; but the point of the poster is not to crowd the space, but to give a simple message which automatically links to the film.
If we were to recreate this we could play on several different perspectives of our film:
Jack the Ripper- A bowler hat or blood soaked dagger
Steampunk- A Steampunk or goggles
Blind Mans Buff- a "hand" like it is reaching out or a blind fold
